The past two weeks weren’t that interesting to write about. Two weeks of school, coming back home tired, have diner and go to bed. Saturday 23th of February I went to the Sultans palace for our culture class. Mas Dede bought us breakfast, which was a roll of dough with nasi goreng inside. Very delicious, let me tell you that. When we arrived at the sultans palace we had to choose if we wanted an English or Dutch tour guide, we chose for the English one because a Korean student had joined with us too. In the end, we better picked the Dutch one because the Korean guy wasn’t listening to what was said anyway… The palace itself wasn’t what you expect when you hear the word palace. It looked like very large garden with a lot of small houses on it. We weren’t allowed to visit the home of the sultan because he was there at the moment. The details in the palace were beautiful to see and it was interesting to hear about the history of the palace and the sultans.

Now, I have to explain the title ofcourse. The 7th of March Janna, Danique, Reza, Nanda and Mario headed to Sandranan and Sundak beach. Jente, Monique and Eef made their own plans for this weekend, and are visiting some other beaches with a guide.
After a two hour drive, we arrived at our homestay. This was 5 min away from the beach. After dropping our stuff, we went to the beach cafés to have diner. Ikan Goreng and Nasi Goreng it was, and it was real nice after the trip. Later that night we went to the beach, made a fire, drank something and played games. We headed back at 00:30 to our homestay and went to sleep.
The next day we all chilled at the beach, enjoying the weather. Because there are a lot of rocks in the water, we couldn’t swim. I cut my food 4 times to the rocks when the waves blew to the beach. Reza took us to a ‘secret beach’. It was between rocks and hard to find if you didn’t know where to look.
That night we went to Sundak beach, because there was a party. Party??? There was a fire and people were sitting around it, making music, singing and drinking. We had a good time and everybody was having fun with each other even though they just met. The next day we went back to Jogjakarta and prepared for the next day of school.

During this week of school we visited the schools were we are going to teach English and learned about time and the days of the week. Also we learned about several temples who lay around Jogjakarta. That Saturday we visited Prambanan Temple, It was beautiful to see the temple and fun too. Almost every piece of detail on the temples we’ve seen was about reproduction. There was also a class from an elementary school which had to talk to us for practicing their English, of course we had to go on a picture with them. We were like the tourist attraction in their tourist attraction, but are used to that now. After visiting the temple Janna, Danique, Hedwich, Evi, Roel, Stephan and I went with our Indonesian friends to parangtritis beach. We bought ticket for the full moon party last month, but because of the ash rain it was cancelled and pushed forward to the next full moon.
When we arrived in prangtritis we first dropped our bags in the homestay and went for diner, where Julie, Yentl, Nienke and Micha joined us. After diner we made some music, Ade brought his guitar (one of our Indonesian friends) and we sing along with every song he played.
We headed to the beach for the party at 9. But when we came there they were having some problems with the electricity, and the DJ couldn’t play. There was a sort of percussion group also at the beach and Evi encouraged them to play to get the party started. We didn’t know that during their act some of them where going to spit fire, but that made it awesome to look at. When the electricity was fixed, the party started and it was a good party. It lasted until 03:00, but we didn’t made it till then. We headed back around 02:00 to eat something. We found an restaurant that was still open and ordered food, but it was very spicy. So after eating my mouth was on fire for 10 more minutes.
The next day we went back to Jogja and I tried to sleep until diner, because I was very tired from the drive back home.

    Annelies Van Tussenbroek:

    Hoi Jimmy,
    xx mama
